Brenda's Journey

Brenda

Brenda came to us through a community member who was concerned about her wellbeing. She was living in one of the most remote areas, far away from Kampala. A concerned community gentleman had observed that she was often abandoned by her father at a young age.

This situation arose because her mother had gotten a job in Mubende District and had to leave all five of her children behind, including Brenda and her siblings. Due to the dangers of a young girl being left alone, Brenda was often in and out of police and family protection offices because of her father’s irresponsibility. This made her young life difficult and left Brenda in challenging circumstances for which she was often unprepared.

Brenda’s mother was working and sending money through her father, which it is believed he used for his personal enjoyment and choices, leaving the children behind. The recommender informed us that they reported the situation to various police stations, but a solution was never reached.

There was concern that Brenda might be exposed to negative influences within the community where she was growing up. We therefore felt that providing her with a safe and stable environment would give her the opportunity to grow, learn, and thrive while we waited for her mother to return and get in contact with us. We have had Brenda in our care for three years.

We agreed to take Brenda in for a period of time to provide her with stability while her mother worked toward becoming financially and emotionally stable, which has not been possible for now. Unfortunately, many mothers, especially young mothers, often move farther away once they become aware that their children are in much safer hands compared to how they were before.

This arrangement allows time for her mother to get back on her feet, with the understanding that Brenda will be resettled once her mother confirms that she is in a position to care for her. We are uncertain when this will happen due to the changing economic situations that many parents are facing.

Brenda's journey
“We enrolled Brenda in boarding school, where she has been attending for the past three years. She is now a candidate preparing to sit for her Primary Seven national examinations. We are supporting her educational journey while helping her adjust to a safe and supportive learning environment.”

It has not been easy, but it has required a great deal of patience, understanding, and love. Like many children who have experienced difficult circumstances, Brenda has faced her own behavioral and emotional challenges, including difficulties with adjustment and attachment.

We understand that providing her with time, consistency, and a safe, loving environment can gradually improve her situation and support her overall development. Our goal is to help Brenda build confidence, experience stability, and have a brighter future.
